In May, a Minneola family found their way to Waterwell Farms, looking for healthy, organic produce to support their son, Mike, who had been diagnosed with stage 4 liver cancer just a few months earlier. His parents and wife were determined to give him every possible advantage—including fresh, local food.
When they offered to pay, the answer was simple: Absolutely not.
At Waterwell Farms, no one fighting cancer pays for their food. That’s the mission. That’s the heart behind every harvest.
Time passed, and we hadn’t heard from them. Then Mike’s mom, Sandra, reached out. Mike had passed in February. Her message was full of emotion, but also full of love:
“You helped him so much. We want to keep supporting you. When can we pick up more produce?”
Mike left behind a wife and children—and Waterwell Farms made a quiet promise: as long as the farm exists, they will never have to pay for fresh food.
This is what it looks like when purpose meets compassion.
We’re endlessly proud of the work Waterwell Farms does to care for our community, and grateful to play even a small part in helping their mission grow.
