For over 100 years, the Montgomery family home in Lake County has stood as a place of love and legacy. Coretta, 54, has lived there for 52 of those years with her husband James and their three daughters. But time had taken its toll—the home’s electrical system was dangerously outdated, the foundation and walls were deteriorating, windows were boarded up, there was no working HVAC, and the water was no longer safe to drink.
With limited resources, Coretta and James did what they could to keep the house standing, but repairs became too costly and complex to manage alone. Thanks to Habitat for Humanity of Lake-Sumter, and matched funding from SCIG, the Montgomerys are finally seeing their home restored to a safe, livable condition. Completed repairs already include a new water system, HVAC installation, and a much-needed front porch restoration.
Work is still underway—new windows, flooring, and exterior updates are in progress—but the transformation is well on its way. This is more than a home repair project; it’s an investment in dignity, safety, and family stability. We’re proud to support partners like Habitat who help preserve the heart of our communities, one home at a time.
